Professor Steven Burgess is an IBJJF-Certified Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and co-founder of Team Evolution BJJ. With more than 30 years of experience training, teaching and competing around the world, Prof Burgess is an extremely experienced instructor who brings a wealth of knowledge to his students. He is a direct student of legendary Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Chief Instructor, 8th Degree Black Belt, Mestre Marcus Soares who is considered the “Father of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu” in Canada. In addition to jiu-jitsu, Prof Burgess holds black belts in both Karate and Judo. As a military officer, his experience has been extensively employed as a senior Military Combatives Instructor in the Canadian Armed Forces, teaching both conventional and unconventional military forces.
